Day to Day Itinerary

Highlights:

• Akagera – 2 Nights

• Kigali – 1 Night

• Nyungwe – 1 Night

• Gisenyi – 1 Night

• Musanze – 2 nights

Day 1: Kigali - Transfer to Akagera National Park (Travel time, approx. 3hrs)

You will be picked by our safari guide at 7/8a.m. and leave for Akagera National Park. The journey to Akagera takes about 2.3 – 3 hours depending on the stopovers along the way.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery en route to the park (feel free to ask the guide for stopovers to take photos).

Arrive at the park, have a game drive en route to the lodge. Have lunch and later head for a boat trip on Lake Ihema to watch Hippos and crocodiles in the water or by the shores and meet the buffaloes and elephants wallowing by the water banks.

Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Overnight: Ruzizi Tented Camp/Akagera Game Lodge

Day 2: Akagera - Full day game drive

After an early morning breakfast at 6:00 am and leave for an early morning game drive in Akagera national park to catch up with late hunters and early risers.

Look out for Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several Antelope species, and recently the re-introduced Lions and Rhinos.

The park is a varied habitat for wildlife and a number bird species with over 500 bird species in the park making it a birding paradise. You will have a picnic lunch.

After lunch, proceed with your game drive for more search of abundant wildlife within this great park. Later return to the lodge for dinner and evening stay.

Overnight: Ruzizi Tented Camp/Akagera Game Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Akagera - Transfer back to Kigali. Travel time, approx. 3 hours

After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Kigali. You will arrive in time for lunch and later visit Kigali genocide memorial ground were over 25000 bodies of victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide were buried.

This place acts as a museum and an educational center. There is a lot to see and learn about Rwandan history.

You will later return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Overnight: Kigali Serena/Kigali Marriot Hotel/The Retreat

Meal Plan: Bed & Breakfast

Day 4: Kigali - Transfer to Nyungwe National Park. Travel time approx. +5 hours

Have early breakfast, checkout of the hotel and drive towards Western province.

You will visit the Ethnographic Museum in Southern Province en route; this will give you a great introduction to the history of traditional ways of Rwandans and their past way of leadership of Kingship.

Arrive in the lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon is spent on leisure. You will have lunch at the lodge before heading for a canopy walk.

This 90-meters’ suspended metallic bridge will give you a great view of Nyungwe forest. On a lucky day, you may spot one or two primates.

Dinner and overnight: One & Only Nyungwe House/Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Meals:Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking & transfer to Gisenyi

After an early morning cup of tea/coffee, you will be transferred to the park for pre-tracking briefing.

You will be entitled to one hour on finding the chimpanzees. Nyungwe is well known for hosting 13 species of primates.

After the trek, head back to the lodge for lunch then depart for Gisenyi where you will spend the evening on leisure.

Overnight: Lake Kivu Serena/Paradise Kivi Resort

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Gisenyi - Transfer to Musanze, Volcanoes

Arrive early for beautiful sunrise over Lake Kivu. Have breakfast then take a boat ride to explore the lake.

After the boat ride, drive further to Musanze which is roughly a 2-hours’ drive.

Musanze is a tourism area near Volcanoes National Park, where most of the lodges are located since there are no lodges inside of the park.

You will later head for Iby Iwacu cultural experience, where you will get total Rwanda cultural insight, later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Overnight: The Bishop House/Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Volcanoes National Park

After early breakfast, transfer to park headquarters for gorilla pre-tracking briefing.

You will start the guided trek after this. After meeting the gorillas, you will sit around these great apes for an hour watching their social life as you take pictures.

On a gorilla safari, a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as walking shoes, packed food and mineral water, insect repellent, sun screen and a hat.

The gorilla tracking experience takes half or whole day depending on the movements of these primates. After this gorilla tracking experience for relaxation.

Overnight: The Bishop House/Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 8: Golden monkey & Transfer to Kigali. Travel time + 2 hrs

After early breakfast, you will be picked by our safari driver guide who will transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing and start off your day with golden monkey trekking.

Just like the gorilla trekking experience, the same applies to golden monkey trekking though not too hectic.

You will later return to the lodge for lunch and later transfer to Kigali, and if time permits, do a brief city tour, with a visit to the local markets, and drop off at your hotel or airport.
