Gorilla Trekking is one of Africa’s greatest experiences. The magical encounter with Mountain gorillas is one to behold.
Mountain gorillas are only found in 3 countries in the world.
These countries are in East Africa namely:
- Rwanda
- Uganda
- Democratic Republic of Congo
Specifically, you will find them in the wilderness of the Virunga within Le Parc National Des Volcans commonly known as Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park as well as Mahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, and the Virunga National Park found in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The three parks are found in close proximity to each other within a radius of 50KM and are all easily accessible.
Its estimated that only 1004 Mountain Gorillas remain in the world and about 400 of them are found at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda.
The best time to track Gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda is June to September as well as from December up to February.
It’s advisable to book your gorilla trek and tracking safari early as it involves a lot of planning and preparation and pre-booking of permits.
